Botanical Name Schisandra chinensis

 

Schisandra berries (Schisandra chinensis) grow on woody, aromatic, perennial vines native to eastern Siberia, northeastern China, Korea and Japan. These berries are tart with a complex flavor profile with spicy and citrusy notes and a sweet and salty finish.

 

To prepare as a tea, pour 8 oz. boiling water over 1-2 tsps. of the herb. Cover and steep 15-20 minutes, strain and serve immediately.

Suggested Uses

Use as a hot or cold tea, and incorporate into jams or jellies. Make into a tincture.
