In the family of fennel, caraway, and coriander, anise has a warm, sweet licorice-like flavor. Anise seed is used extensively to flavor liquors, cookies, cakes, fruit dishes, coleslaw, rye bread, apple pie and meats. It also makes a wonderful addition to teas.
